Students gathered outside of Downing University Center yesterday to listen to, and sometimes challenge, a man preaching about God and Christianity.
John McGlone, who spoke behind DUC Monday afternoon, wore a neon yellow shirt that said “Turn to Jesus or burn in hell” on the front, and “Trust Jesus” on the back.
He also had a briefcase with the words “Boycott hell – Repent,” on it, along with other statements.
McGlone read scriptures from the Bible, including John 3:16.
He also pointed at several students and shouted things such as “liar,” “hypocrite” and “sinner.”
“He’s preaching down at us,” Paducah freshman Brad Wright said. “He shouldn’t condemn us and make us feel less than a man. He’s going about this all wrong.”
Students gathered around the man, some asking questions or shouting back at him.
“I’m just preaching the word,” McGlone said. “I’m laying down my life for you. He who denies the father in heaven is condemned. I’m preaching to the lost. If you’re found, go away!”
Campus police came to the scene, but didn’t attempt to stop McGlone from speaking.
